Overview of Special Exception Process --Costco Gas Station

As you may know, Costco has decided to build its store at Westfield Wheaton regardless of whether a gas station is approved.
Though a Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) is no longer being sought as a means of getting the gas station, Costco has informed
us that they have taken the first steps in beginning the process of applying for a Special Exception to place this proposed gas
station behind Westfield Wheaton Mall.

Mr. Khalid Afzal from Park & Planning (P&P) will join us to speak about the Special Exception process as it relates to gas stations,
and he will bring someone from the Zoning Office (of P&P) to go through a case study for us.  This presentation will be timely as
we seek to educate ourselves on this process and continue to work to stop the placement of the proposed gas station.

To be as clear as possible, Costco will be building a store at Westfield Wheaton regardless of what happens with the gas station.
KHCA remains opposed to the placement of the proposed gas station behind Westfield Wheaton in such close proximity to many
homes, a school, and swim club.
